THE CONSTRUCTION OF NICARAGUA CANAL HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED

December 22nd , 2014 officially started the construction of the Nicaragua Canal. The start construction ceremony of this huge project (estimated cost over 50 billion dollars and record dimensions: 278km long and 500m wide approx.) has been welcomed by several controversies, in addition to causing protests by anti-canal demonstrators and the indigenous of the ethnic groups "ramas" and "Nahua" against the great inconvenience that the construction of the might cause to the native population and agriculture of the country.

In fact, the canal that will connect the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea passing through the Cocibolca lake would divide the country in two parts ruining the natural oasis present, undermining the survival of many fish species and threatening the survival of thousands of fishermen. Even agriculture will suffer severe damage: the plan of expropriation will lead to the losses of more than 20,000 farmers in the fields of cultivation against financial compensation is still to be settled. The project of the Nicaragua Canal: ultimate expression of modern engineering against the modification of the territory and economic profits for the international trade against the changing ecosystem.
